Day 4 - October 21, 2013
As we have discussed in previous
days, the idea of a haunted house style
attraction was present from the very first
renderings of a Disney controlled park, but one
idea that wasn't present was the Museum of the
Weird. The Museum of the Weird was one of the
pet projects of Imagineer Rolly Crump.
One of the original ideas for The Haunted Mansion
was guests would be able to explore the mansion and afterwards they
would enter a walk through museum where they would discover weird
artifacts from around the world. The idea was it would be a
continuation from the attraction guests experienced, but with new
crazy ideas like a candle man that was constantly burning.
While Walt seemed to love the ideas several of the
Imagineers didn't feel like this little extra truly would enhance
the story being told further. After Walt passed away the idea was
officially taken off the drawing table. However, in 2011 the Haunted
Mansion received a brand new extended queue that would take guests
further into the graveyard they usually just walked by.
Included in this graveyard was an organ which
featured sets of instruments on both sides. While the one side
consisted of traditional instruments, the opposite featured
instruments taken directly from Rolly Crump's Museum of the Weird
concepts!

Tomorrow we will explore the queue line a little
further as we point out some of the details and fun facts most
guests simply walk by on a daily basis!
