Day 7 - October 25, 2013

While entering the load area for the Doom Buggy, guests often rush past some amazing details in the waiting area. Throughout the load area, along with the first hallway guests pass through, guests can find eleven different portraits adorning the walls. There are seven in the load area with no special effect, while four additional ones with lightning changing effects can be found in the first hallway.

These are often referred to as the Sinister Eleven or when people discuss the seven in the load area, the Sinister Seven. While these eleven paintings help enhance the story of the Mansion, one of the paintings, found in the load area, has an interesting history behind it.

Sailor in Mansion

The painting found on the left hand wall where guests merge together features a sailor with a spear in hand. If you recall, a few days ago we discussed how the original story for the Haunted Mansion was going to be set around a captain of a ship who lived in the Mansion at one point. While the Imagineers were developing this storyline, the painting seen above was created to help enhance the story. While this didn't become the central story in the Mansion, it is good to see Captain Gore keeping a watchful eye over the guests of what almost was his Haunted Mansion.

Tomorrow we will continue our journey through the library and endless hallways!
