The Animation Courtyard opened up with the park and was one
of the staples of Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood
Studios) until 2003. From park opening until 2003 Disney
animators could be found working in the signature attraction
for this area, The Magic of Disney Animation, on new Disney
films. This includes all of the work of Mulan, Lilo and
Stitch, and Brother Bear being completed just at this
location.
In addition to the Magic of Disney Animation, the two shows,
Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Playhouse Disney - Live on
Stage, are great for the whole family!
While technically part of Mickey Avenue, Walt Disney: One
Man's Dream and Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian are
considered to be part of The Animation Courtyard according
to this site. Mickey Avenue used to continue down to where
the Studio Backlot Tour is, but with the addition of Pixar
Place, this "land" has shrunken significantly and blends
into The Animation Courtyard fairly well.
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Walt Disney: One
Man's Dream allow for guests to get up close and personal
with props from various Disney films and artifacts dealing
with the man that started it all.
The current attractions are The Magic of Disney Animation,
Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney - Live on
Stage, Walt Disney: One Man's Dream, and Chronicles of
Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Fun Facts: You can find some of the
handprints of the original animators in the courtyard that
is near the entrance to The Magic of Disney Animation.
Touring Tips: The Voyage of the Little
Mermaid can get crowded as the day goes on. You will have a
better chance of getting a seat if you attend one of the
first shows, or if you arrive later in the day.
