Camp Minnie-Mickey opened up with Disney's Animal Kingdom as
a temporary land. Wait, what? Camp Minnie-Mickey was
originally intended to be around for just a few years?
That's right!
When Disney's Animal Kingdom was being developed, there were
plans for a completely different land called Beastly Kingdom
which would focus around different mythological creatures.
Unfortunately, the funds were running low and plans to open
this portion of the park were put on hold for a few years.
To keep guests busy, Imagineers came up with an idea for a
land that would be interactive for guests, and Camp
Minnie-Mickey was born!
Fun Facts: You can still find a reference
to the unbuilt Beastly Kingdom. While crossing the bridge
from Discovery Island to Camp Minnie-Mickey take a look over
the bridge on the right hand side. While looking out over
the river you can see a stone shaped like a dragon on the
left bank!
Touring Tips: This is the place to meet
Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and other Disney characters!
