Disney's Hollywood Studios opened on May 1, 1989 as
Disney-MGM Studios. The park actually originated from a
planned pavilion for Epcot that revolved around a Great
Movie Ride. When some higher ups heard of these plans, they
decided that this shouldn't be an individual pavilion, but
an entire new theme park that revolved around a working
Disney studio.
Over the years the park has been the location of several
different film shoots, including Newsies and the exteriors
of the Golden Girls houses, along with being the home of
where three Disney animated films were completely done
(Mulan, Brother Bear, and Lilo and Stitch).
Disney-MGM Studios would eventually change it's name to
Disney's Hollywood Studios on January 7, 2008.
The current attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios are
The Great Movie Ride, Twilight Zone
Tower of Terror, Rockin' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith,
Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage, Fantasmic!, Playhouse
Disney - Live on Stage, The Magic of Disney Animation, The
Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Walt Disney: One Man's Dream,
Toy Story Midway Mania, The Studio Backlot Tour, Lights,
Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, Muppet Vision 3-D, Star
Tours, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Sounds
Dangerous Starring Drew Carey, and the American Idol

Fun Facts: Even though the park has
officially changed it's name to Disney's Hollywood Studios,
you can still find different plaques and signs throughout
the park stating Disney-MGM Studios. Look at the dedication
plaque at the end of Hollywood Boulevard and near the Muppet

Touring Tips: Make sure you grab a Fastpass
for Toy Story Midway Mania as soon as possible! It is one of the most popular
attractions in Walt Disney World and the Fastpasses run out
quickly!
