Typhoon Lagoon opened on June 1, 1989.
While most people see Typhoon Lagoon as just a water park,
the storyline that goes along with the park is actually
connected to Downtown Disney. You begin to see the storyline
on signs while approaching the parking lot which state:
"A Furious Storm once roared 'cross the sea....
Catching ships in in its path, helpless to flee....
Instead of a certain and watery doom...
The winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon."
While walking through the park you will see different ships,
cargo, bikes, and other form of debris scattered throughout
the parks. Some of the crates scattered throughout are
actually addressed to different buildings found on Pleasure
Island!
The current attractions at Typhoon Lagoon are Humunga
Kowabunga, Storm Slides (Jib Jabber, Stern Burner, Rudder
Buster), Mayday Falls, Keelhaul Falls, Gang Plank Falls,
Forgotten Grotto, Overlook Pass, Shark Reef, Ketchakiddie
Creek, Castaway Creek, and the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool.
Fun Facts: The wave pool is the largest
outdoor wave pool in the world!
Lagoona Gator is the official mascot of Typhoon Lagoon. His
relative, Ice Gator, is the mascot of Blizzard Beach!
