Mickey's PhilharMagic

Return to Fantasyland Attractions

The Story: Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, welcome to Mickey's PhilharMagic! Today Mickey is putting on a musically magical concert for you, but unfortunately stagehand Donald Duck hasn't set up the stage yet and has been napping on the job. Mickey wakes Donald and before running offstage for some final preparation instructs Donald to not touch his hat.

Donald, of course, puts the hat on and the instruments magically come to life. He is then transported through scenes from classic films like Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, and more all while trying to recover "his" hat. Can Donald retrieve it in time to get back to the start of the concert? Only time will tell!

Height Restriction: None
Attraction Length: About 12 minutes

The History: While Mickey's PhilharMagic wasn't around on opening day, another attraction which featured several different classic Disney characters, much like PhilharMagic does today, sat there instead: The Mickey Mouse Revue! The Mickey Mouse Revue made this its home until 1980 and the location sat vacant until 1987 when the 1953 3-D Disney short film, Working for Peanuts, was teamed up with the Epcot 3-D film, Magic Journeys. The two joined together for a double feature and would remain until late 1993.

With the release of The Lion King the following year, a brand new show featuring Disney Humanimals made its way to this location in Fantasyland as well. While the show was insanely popular, it finally closed its doors in 2002 to make way for a brand new 4-D movie experience which would once again pay homage to classic Disney films, Mickey's PhilharMagic!

Mickey's PhilharMagic officially opened on October 8, 2003.

Fun Fact: While in line pay attention to the posters found throughout the lobby. They depict different Disney films like Toy Story 2, The Three Caballeros, and many more by featuring some of the films characters in creative "shows!"

While several of the original animators returned to animate the characters they had worked on for the original films (for instance, Glen Keane the original animator for Ariel returned to animate her in 3-D), the film was directed by someone that had already directed a full length animated feature film: George Scribner. George's first big directorial project with Disney was the 1988 film, Oliver and Company!

The majority of Donald's lyrics were actually taken directly from old Donald Duck cartoons of the 30s, 40s, and 50s! Due to this you are hearing the original voice, Clarence "Ducky" Nash through most of the film. Some instances, like Donald humming "Be Our Guest" were recorded by Donald's current voice, Tony Anselmo!

Location: Fantasyland

Touring Tips: The best time to visit the attraction is either earlier in the day or later at night. It will get a little crowded during the middle of the day which may result in waiting a little longer.
