Location: Main Street, USA, Magic Kingdom
One of the most popular segments from the 1946
Disney package film, Make Mine Music, focused around the popular
poem, Casey at the Bat! While the film is often forgotten by most
people today, the segment has a very large presence in the Magic
Kingdom in the form of Casey's Corner.
While the restaurant originally opened up as Coke
Corner, it was eventually rethemed with the baseball theme we all
know and love today. While there are several fun finds found
throughout the ordering and dining area, today we will be taking a
look at the sign out front:

While the sign seems fairly insignificant, the item
that most people overlook is the baseball in the center of the C.
Here we can find the year Casey's Corner opened, 1988. While the
majority of the buildings found on Main Street, USA feature years
from the late 1800s and early 1900s, the 1888 represents something
special.
While most Disney fans know Casey at the Bat from
Make Mine Music, we must remember that it was based off of the
popular poem by the same name. So why 1888? That was the year Ernest
Thayer released Casey at the Bat in The San Francisco Examiner!
