Location: Sunset Boulevard, Disney's Hollywood
Studios
Today is a monumental day. No, not because the world
is supposedly going to end (but if you think it is and want to treat
someone to a final meal, I am more than willing to be on the
receiving end). In reality, 75 years ago today the face of both
Disney and film as we know it changed completely.
That's right, on December 21, 1937 Walt Disney
released the now classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. While
there are several references to the film found throughout the Disney
parks, there is one in particular that really ties guests to that
monumental day 75 years ago. So let's go back in time by visiting
the shop, Once Upon A Time:

While most guests are familiar with the now famous
Carthay Circle Theater in Disney's California Adventure, back in the
mid 90s, Disney added their original Carthay Circle Theather at
Disney-MGM Studios on Sunset Boulevard. What's so important about
this building? Well, 75 years ago the movie premiere of all movie
premieres occurred at the actual Carthay Circle Theater in
Hollywood. When the first full length "cartoon" debuted all the
stars, including Mickey, Donald, all Seven Dwarfs, and of course
Walt Disney, attended.
Naturally, this was a major deal which was broadcast
on the radio around the country (remember, this was before
televisions were invented). While the inside section of Once Upon A
Time is well themed with pictures from the original day, guests can
truly feel like they are there by entering the store, shutting their
eyes, and listening within the shop. For this is the spot that
guests can hear the broadcast at the premiere that occurred 75 years
ago today! Happy listening!
