Fun Find Friday
September 12, 2014
Location: Dinoland, USA, Disney's Animal Kingdom
We have discussed a few times on
this site about how the addition of plant life
helps disguise the real world from a guest's
view while walking throughout the parks. One of
these instances can be found over at Dinoland,
USA at the attraction Dinosaur.
The storyline of Dinosaur focuses on the guests
traveling back in time to retrieve an Iguanodon. Naturally, due to
this storyline, the Dino Institute is just a small building,
therefore, the show building that houses the attraction does not
exist in our world whatsoever.
To help create this illusion, Imagineers went back
to a technique they developed in the 1960s once It's a Small World
returned from the 1964 World's Fair. They placed trees on top of the
Dino Institute to make the building appear much smaller than it
actually is. Take a look at the picture below where the trees appear
to be approaching from behind the building instead of actually being
placed on top of it!
