Fun Find Friday
November 20, 2015
Location: Tomorrowland, Disneyland
Things are about to get nerdy! This past Monday
while in Disneyland I was lucky enough to experience the brand new
Star Wars Launch Bay. The area is filled with various memorabilia,
which I'm sure we will visit in future Fun Find Fridays, along with
areas that help you feel like you are in a Star Wars film. One of
the areas which helps capture the essence of the films in the
cantina.
In the cantina there are several different details
which help immerse yourself in the Star Wars world, but one detail
caught my eye right away:

While the picture immediately reminds one of
Luke's home on Tatooine (complete with double suns), it's the words
below that enhance the story. The language found here is Aurebesh, a
language found throughout the Star Wars films. Luckily, during Star
Wars Weekends, guests could purchase nametags in Aurebesh along with
a translation card. I dusted off the translation card to help make
sense of the writing below the double suns.
The words found here read:
"Binary Sunset Drink Special
Twice the Suns, Half the Price"
There are a few nods to the original Star Wars film,
A New Hope, found here. The first is the obvious, the double suns
representing Luke's home planet, but the nod to binary pays tribute
to the very first time we meet C-3PO and R2-D2. In the scene Luke's
Uncle Owen asks C-3PO if he is fluent in binary which 3PO responds
that it's like a second language to him.
This isn't the only fun find in the area though! As
stated earlier, we will be returning here in the very near future to
take a closer look at some more fun finds!
