Tomorrowland World Premiere
By Justin J. Smith

On May 9th, I got to cross 'Become a crazy movie fan at a world premiere' off of my 'Things I've Never Done' list, as I got to be a live-witness at the World Premiere of Disney's newest live-action film, Brad Bird's Tomorrowland.

Tomorrowland preview

This was actually the sixth film to have its premiere at the Disneyland resort, as all four Pirates of the Caribbean had their premiere at Disneyland and The Lone Ranger had its premiere at Disney's California Adventure. Tomorrowland actually had its premiere at the AMC theater at Downtown Disney, making it a first (an after-party with the cast and crew took place at the actual Tomorrowland).

There were plenty of acrobats trying to make the two hours prior to the star's arrivals fly by.

Disney Legends Richard Sherman, Bob Gurr and Tony Baxter all showed up. Even Little Mermaid/Aladdin co-director John Musker was able to sneak in.

Seemingly everyone was there from Olivia Holt to Lance Bass to Chris Soules. Of course the big star of the event was George Clooney. But truthfully, I didn't really care. My goal of that day was to get my copy of Before Tomorrowland signed by Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof.

Unfortunately, Lindelof pretty much ignored me and the guy next to me shouting his name and just went acknowledging anybody. Fortunately, Brad Bird was much more appreciative of his fans, going back and forth between the two separate rows of people wanting to get selfies/autographs. He eventually came to me as I opened my book up to the title page, gave him my sharpie and he signed. I made the comment 'That was worth the coming and waiting to this premiere alone!' He looked at me, winked, and then continued on down the 'blue carpet.'

Between that, and the selfies I got with Tony Baxter and composer Michael Giacchino, I'd say it was a worthwhile adventure.
