Basil of Baker Street (Mr. Basil) is the
brilliant lead character in
The Great Mouse Detective. Basil can
also be seen in Disney's House of Mouse,
Basil the Great Mouse Detective video game
and in
Darkwing Duck in which his statue
opens up the passage to Darkwing Duck's home
base.
The closest thing that Basil has to family
is his house keeper Mrs. Judson and his
partner Dr. David Q. Dawson. His other close
confidants are Toby, Olivia, Hiram
Flaversham and bad bat turned good Fidget
after Ratigan throws him into the Thames.
His arch-nemesis is the evil Professor
Ratigan along with his goons, along with
Felicia and Bartholomew.
Although Basil can be seen wearing a few
different outfits in The Great Mouse
Detective, Basil's main outfit has a very
Sherlock Holmes look to him, he has a
long brown coat, with brown slacks, a green
tie, cream and black shoes, and a really
cool looking brown hat. He also smokes a
pipe in the film.
*Fun Fact* Vincent Price voiced Basil's
enemy Ratigan, he is also the narrator for
Michael Jackson's Thriller, and he also was
the original voice for Phantom Manor at
Disneyland Paris, but his evil laughter is
now only used there. He also has one of the
creepiest laughs I have ever heard in my
life, it sends chills down my spine.
Basil is voiced by
Barrie Ingham. Basil's weapon of
choice is a pistol, and Basil lives below
the Sherlock Holmes residence in a Flat.
Some notable quotes from Basil are 'Ratigan,
so help me, i'll see you behind bars yet!'
and 'It's elementary, my dear Dawson!'.
I believe that Basil used to be in the parks
as a meet and greet but he has since
officially been retired.
