Who's Who? Wednesday

January 18, 2012

Gaston is the extremely arrogant and conceited villain in Walt Disney's 1991 masterpiece and hit Broadway show 'Beauty and the Beast.' He can also be seen in the film 'Mickey's House of Villains.' Also in television shows such as 'House of Mouse,' 'Sing Me a Story with Belle,' and also Gaston can be seen on the hit ABC show 'Once upon a Time' that will air on February 12th. In video games he can be found in 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Disney Princess,' 'Belle's Quest,' 'Beauty and the Beast: Roar of the Beast,' and 'Beauty and the Beast: A Board Game Adventure.' Some of the other merchandise Gaston can be found on are clothes, books, toys, and my personal favorite item, pins.

He lives in the village and spends most of his time hunting and hanging out as his tavern. His followers include his trusted sidekick LeFou, Laura, Claudia, and Paula, the villagers, and Mosieur D'Aquire who runs the asylum. He also has all of the Disney villains on his side. People who oppose Gaston's way of life include Belle, Maurice, Beast, and all the forces of good such as Mickey, and the rest of the fab five.

*FUN FACTS* Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever to be nominated for best film at the Academy Awards. In addition to that, Walt Disney tried creating Beauty and the Beast a number of times before his passing, but just couldn't come up with the right story.

Gaston is a very muscular man, he wears a few different outfits in the film. Both outfits have the same color scheme. His hopeful wedding outfit is a long red coat, white under shirt, gold vest, a black belt, a black tie, white slacks with red socks, black boots, and a yellow ribbon for his ponytail. His most common outfit includes a red shirt with a gold collar, a black belt with a gold buckle, black slacks, brown boots, gold gloves, and a red ribbon for his ponytail. Also during the film he is seen with a type of brown belt that goes over his shoulder that holds his arrows.

He was created by Andreas Deja, and voiced by the talented Richard White. I am really surprised he never voiced another Disney character. It is rumored he was in the running to voice Governor Ratcliffe in Pocahontas, but Disney thought he did such a great job as Gaston, that people would think of the Gaston character while watching Pocahontas so they gave it to David Ogden Stiers who voiced Cogsworth in 'Beauty and the Beast' instead.

Gaston can be found at Disney parks around the world. He can be seen is various parades and shows as well as a meet and greet character on certain occasions. My favorite show that he appears in is Beauty and the Beast ' Live on Stage at Disney's Hollywood Studios. He is extremely popular at Disneyland Paris and can be seen on a regular basis there.

I highly recommend for everyone to go and check out Beauty and the Beast in 3D. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie of all time but seeing it in 3D was unbelievable. Especially during the castle scenes and the opening scene was definitely a wow moment!
