Great Movie Ride

Return to Hollywood Boulevard Attractions

The Story: Hooray for Hollywood! You are invited to take a trip through the movies while visiting some of Hollywood's most classic films, including Casablanca, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Singing in the Rain, The Wizard of Oz, and more!

Height Restriction: None

Attraction Length: 22 minutes (1,928 feet)

Fastpass? Not Available

The History: The history for The Great Movie Ride actually begins over at Epcot. A few years before Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios) was built, there was an idea for a Movie Pavilion over at Epcot. The signature attraction for this pavilion would take guests through some of Hollywood's greatest films!

Seeing the potential of this pavilion, Michael Eisner decided to turn the attraction into the signature attraction for a brand new theme park, which would be revolved around movies! The Great Movie Ride would open with Disney-MGM Studios on May 1, 1989.

Fun Facts: At the start of the attraction, your tour guide says, "Ready when you are C.B." C.B. stands for Cecil B. DeMille, a famous Hollywood filmmaker that was actively making films from the 1910's through the 1950's. While you may think the tour guide is crazy for looking back at nothing, you may be wrong! Take a look at the catwalk to find a very small picture of Cecil B. Demille there!

Two of Disney's greatest films, Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book, debuted at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. To give a nod to these two historic films, check out the window displays on the right and left hand side of the courtyard!

All of the foot and handprints in front of the attraction are legit! Take a look around to see which famous people have stepped foot here!

Location: Hollywood Boulevard

Touring Tips: While the Great Movie Ride isn't the most popular attraction in the park, it can get crowded earlier in the day and right after the parade so try to visit it later in the day for less of a wait.
