Who's Who? Wednesday

October 10, 2012

Gonzo is the lovable long nosed character from Jim Henson's beloved creations The Muppets. He has been in many Muppet films such as 'The Great Muppet Caper,' 'Muppet Treasure Island,' 'The Muppet Movie,' 'The Muppets,' 'It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie,' 'The Muppet Christmas Carol,' 'Muppets From Space,' 'The Muppets Take Manhattan,' and 'The Muppets Wizard of Oz." He can also be found in television shows such as 'Muppets Tonight,' 'The Jim Henson Hour,' 'Little Muppet Monsters,' 'Muppet Babies,' and 'The Muppet Show.' In video games he can be found in Jim Henson's Muppets, Tap Tap Muppets, Muppets Party Cruise, Muppet RaceMania, and Muppet Monster Adventure just to name a few. Gonzo can also be found in other merchandise such as clothes, vinylmations, toys, books (comic books and regular books), and halloween costumes.

He mainly lives at Muppet Studios, but over the years has traveled all over depending on which Muppet movie you were watching. He has many friends he can count on when he needs them including Kermit, Rizzo, Piggy, Rowlf, Pepe, Fozzie, and Camilla just to name a few. His enemies include Tex Richman, Trevor the Gross, and anyone else that tries to hurt his friends or his family.

Gonzo has a very bright and zany fashion sense. Some of his outfits include multi colored checkered suits and purple tuxedos. He also has a variety of Gonzo the Great stunt outfits that he wears.

He was created by the Jim Henson company and Dave Goelz was his puppeteer. Dave also was the man behind characters such as Beauregard and Bunsen Honeydew. Other people who have voiced Gonzo over the years were Hal Rayle and Russi Taylor. Gonzo debuted in 1976 and has been a staple of the company ever since.

Gonzo can be found in Disney parks around the world in the attraction Muppet Vision 3-D. He can also be found on the Disney Cruise Line ships in the interactive game on board called Midship Detective Agency. In my opinion the Muppets are underused in the theme parks. I would love to see Disney come up with more creative ways to get them into the parks.
